Comment Period Extended Additional 30 Days

TRENTON The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs today announced that an additional 30 days will be given for public comment for the proposed readoption of rules concerning local housing authority crime reports. The proposed readoption was initially published in the New Jersey Register on Monday, December 5, 2016. The rules establish procedures for collecting and reporting data on violent crimes and drug offenses committed on housing authority properties, as well as on properties of 10 or more rental units receiving project-based Federal Section 8 rental assistance (project-based housing).

The rules require the Department to report certain information on violent crimes and drug offenses to the Legislature. All housing authority directors and all owners of multi-family property of 10 or more units receiving project-based Federal Section 8 rental assistance must file reports with the Department, no later than September 1 of each year on a form provided by the Department for this purpose. The report must include the number and type of violent crimes and drug offenses that occurred on the property during the preceding State fiscal year (July 1 through June 30).

The Department provided a 60-day comment period on this notice of proposal that ended on February 3, 2017. An additional 30 days will be given for public comment, which begins on April 10, 2017.

Written comments should be submitted by May 10, 2017, to:
