Community Resource Fair to Be Held in Sayreville on September 12; People Affected by Superstorm Sandy Encouraged to Attend

Trenton, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) today announced a free Community Resource Fair will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2018, in Sayreville, Middlesex County, to provide people with information about housing, job opportunities, foreclosure prevention, and credit improvement tips. Anyone who was affected by Superstorm Sandy is welcome and encouraged to attend.

The Community Resource Fair will be held from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Faith Fellowship Community Development Corporation, 2707 Main Street, Sayreville, NJ, 08872.

“DCA is pleased to partner with Faith Fellowship to gather a tremendous amount of community resources into one location, which is very helpful for families who already have so much on their plate,” said Lt. Governor Sheila Y. Oliver, DCA Commissioner. “People who attend the resource fair will find supportive services organizations, housing counselors, potential employers, government representatives, and leasing agents who can answer questions and provide guidance.”

For example, attendees will have the opportunity to receive personalized assistance from the Middlesex County One Stop Career Center; apply for jobs with employers such as HMSHost, which operates food establishments at 17 service areas along the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway; and speak with representatives of affordable rental communities developed with Sandy recovery funds that are accepting rental applications.

Attendees can also participate in free workshops about how to improve their credit score and about the New Jersey HomeSaver foreclosure prevention initiative and Foreclosure Mediation Assistance Program. Additionally, they can meet one-on-one with HUD-certified housing counseling agencies for a wide array of housing-related issues, including mortgages, budgeting, and rental guidance.

Aside from DCA and Faith Fellowship CDC, the following organizations have committed to date to participate:

  • Middlesex County One Stop Career Center
  • Freddie Mac
  • New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency
  • New Jersey Courts (Foreclosure Mediation Program)
  • HMSHost
  • Starbucks
  • Burger King
  • Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen
  • Unitex Textile Services
  • Greenway Products & Services
  • 600 NoBe at North Beach rental community in Atlantic City

DCA is hosting the Community Resource Fair together with Faith Fellowship Community Development Corporation, a nonprofit organization involved with programs and services addressing the personal needs of individuals who require assistance to improve the quality of life for themselves and their families. The Department has held Resource Fairs in each of those counties the federal government determined were most impacted by Sandy (Atlantic, Bergen, Cape May, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, and Union). Information about upcoming Resource Fairs will be provided as they are scheduled.
