January 26, 2019 - DCA to Host Atlantic City Town Hall Meeting on January 29th

Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver Will Speak and Take Questions from the Community

TRENTON, NJ – The New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA) encourages Atlantic City residents and people who work, recreate, and go to school in the city to come to an Atlantic City Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, January 29 to provide their input for the city’s future. 

The meeting will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on January 29 in the Adrian Phillips Ballroom of Boardwalk Hall, 2301 Boardwalk, Atlantic City. Refreshments will be served and parking will be free for people attending the meeting, which is being hosted by Lt. Governor Sheila Oliver and DCA’s Office of Atlantic City Initiatives. 

“Since the Atlantic City Transition Report was issued four months ago, considerable progress has been made in implementing key recommendations of the report,” said Lt. Governor Sheila Y. Oliver, who serves as DCA Commissioner. “The town hall meeting will give the Atlantic City community a chance to take stock of what’s been done thus far and to engage in a candid conversation about how to keep the momentum moving forward.” 

The town hall meeting will kick off with a welcome from Libbie Wills of the 1st Ward Civic Association followed by remarks from Lt. Governor Oliver. Then people attending the meeting will break out into dialogue groups centered on topics of import to Atlantic City, including economic development, health, jobs, youth pathways, public safety, and land use and planning. For each dialogue group, there will be a trained facilitator to encourage constructive conversation and a recorder who will take notes of the discussion. 

At the conclusion of the dialogue groups, attendees will reconvene to review what was discussed in each group and to learn about next steps and how their input will be utilized to improve Atlantic City’s future. 

“We urge anyone who is interested in Atlantic City’s future to participate in the town hall,” Lt. Governor Oliver said. “The key word is ‘participate’ because we will be providing space and time for real conversations about how to continue building a foundation for sustainable, shared prosperity. We look forward to community input and it’s tremendous energy for the work ahead.”
