June 11, 2019 - Atlantic City Initiatives Project Office to Host Atlantic City Town Hall for Spanish Speakers on June 18th

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – In an effort to gather input from Spanish-speaking individuals about Atlantic City and its future, the City of Atlantic City and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs’ (DCA) Atlantic City Initiatives Project Office will host a Spanish language town hall meeting on Tuesday, June 18 in collaboration with key Atlantic City stakeholders, community and advocacy groups, and educational and healthcare institutions. 

The meeting will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Our Lady Star of the Sea Memorial Hall, 2651 Atlantic Avenue in Atlantic City. Refreshments will be served for people attending the town hall. 

“Our first town hall meeting in January was a huge success, but we learned we have to do a better job reaching residents whose primary language is Spanish. To answer this need, we’ve worked with several respected groups in the community to organize a Spanish language town hall,” said Lt. Governor Sheila Y. Oliver, who serves as DCA Commissioner. “We encourage all of our Spanish-speaking friends, neighbors, and colleagues to come to the town hall and contribute their thoughts and ideas about how we can continue to advance Atlantic City’s renewal for everyone.” 

Lieutenant Governor Oliver, Governor’s Special Counsel Jim Johnson, Atlantic City Mayor Frank M. Gilliam, Jr., and Atlantic City Councilman Moisse Delgado will provide remarks that will be interpreted into Spanish for people attending the town hall meeting. 

After the remarks, people will break out into dialogue groups focused on topics important to Atlantic City such as economic development, public health and wellness, youth opportunities, public safety, employment, and land use and planning. For each dialogue group, there will be a facilitator who is bilingual in Spanish and English and able to encourage constructive conversation. 

At the conclusion of the dialogue groups, town hall attendees will reconvene to review what was discussed in each group and to learn about how their input will be utilized to improve Atlantic City’s future.
