Winter Trout Stocking Monday and Tuesday

November 19, 2020

On Monday and Tuesday, November 23 and 24, approximately 4,460 two-year old Rainbow Trout, averaging 14-18 inches, will be stocked in 20 designated ponds and lakes across the state. The Winter Trout Stocking Program is the final one each year, bringing the total of trout stocked from the Pequest Trout Hatchery in Warren County to more than 600,000.

The Winter Trout Stocking Program extends trout fishing action through the winter months and early spring until spring stocking begins (opening day is April 10 in 2021). In fact, spring anglers are in for a real battle when they hook into trout stocked as part of the NJDEP Division of Fish & Wildlife's fall and winter programs which are not caught and hold over.
