Wild School Sites Workshop

WILD School Sites workshops complement DEP's other wildlife education efforts such as state sponsorship of Project WILD. Wild School Sites workshops extend student learning from "awareness to action" on a school's property. WILD School Sites are places where teachers can use the outdoors "as is" for learning throughout the curriculum, or to develop on-site habitats that benefit local wildlife. Workshop participants are provided with references, activities, and methods for involving students in the process of creating or enhancing wildlife habitat that exists on school property or in the community.

  • Teachers receive the reference book Homes for Wildlife, information on grants, wildlife landscaping information, and curriculum resources related to outdoor classrooms.

  • Workshops provide a forum for brainstorming about uses of the outdoors throughout the curriculum, ways to inventory and map existing space, and ideas about improving habitats for wildlife.

  • One-day workshops are held at schools and environmental education centers throughout the state.
