Guidance Documents Vapor Intrusion New Jersey Johnson & Ettinger Spreadsheets

New Jersey Johnson & Ettinger (J&E) Spreadsheets Update (September 2016)

Alternate Format [pdf 15 Kb]

The following modifications have been made to the instructions for the New Jersey J&E Spreadsheets used in the development of alternative Ground Water Screening Levels (GWSL) for the vapor intrusion pathway:

  • The use of new toxicity factors to calculate alternative GWSL in the spreadsheets is not an option since these input parameters are not site-specific. New toxicity information is addressed through updates to the Department's vapor intrusion screening levels.
  • The inclusion of building-specific parameters (such as modified building perimeter, air exchange rate and worker/non-residential exposure factors) in the spreadsheets is not an option in developing alternative GWSL since the screening levels are intended to be protective for potential vapor intrusion impacts associated with contaminated ground water without being subject to institutional controls.
  • Procedures for the determination of site-specific soil texture have been modified consistent with the latest NJDEP Vapor Intrusion Technical Guidance (August 2016). When using a single soil texture with the spreadsheet, a median soil texture is now used, rather than the 75th percentile soil texture.

The updated instructions are available at www.nj.gov/dep/srp/guidance/vaporintrusion/.
