[EXTERNAL]: New Jersey Site Remediation Professional Licensing Board Statement Regarding Continuing Education Credits for Licensed Site Remediation Professional Renewal Applications Submitted After December 31, 2022

In response to restrictions on gatherings due to Covid, the requirement to earn no more than 18 CECs via an Alternate Verifiable Learning Format (AVLF) was waived for all Licensed Site Remediation Professionals (LSRPs) with license renewals applications due on or before December 31, 2022.

The New Jersey Site Remediation Professional Licensing Board (Board) recognizes that LSRPs submitting license renewal applications after this date, when the waiver is no longer in effect, may find it difficult to meet the requirement to fulfill 18 CECs live in-person due to the limited number of continuing education programs offered live in-person at this time. The Board also recognizes that continuing education providers have begun to offer their programs in multiple formats, including live in-person, live simulcast with the opportunity for real-time interaction with instructors and other attendees, and recorded for later viewing.

Therefore, in its upcoming rule revision, the Board is proposing to redefine Alternative Verifiable Learning Format to be "continuing education that is presented in a format that does not provide the ability to interact with the instructor or other participants during the presentation." Assuming this change in definition is adopted in January 2023, LSRPs that attend a program via simulcast will be considered to be attending the program "live" rather than via Alternative Verifiable Learning Format, as long as there is a means of interacting with the rest of the class in real time. LSRPs submitting a renewal application from January 2023 forward would be able to count courses simulcast live as in-person (even if the course was considered AVLF at the time they took it).

Since any one continuing education program may be offered in multiple formats, the Board will require that CEC providers include on the certificate of attendance presented to each LSRP which of three possible formats was attended by the LSRP. Every LSRP should also carefully track the continuing education programs they attend, including the program name, program number assigned by the Board, date attended, type and number of continuing education credits earned, and format in which the LSRP attended the program, as all this information will be required for license renewal applications.

LSRPs with questions should contact the Board at SRPLBoardContact@dep.nj.gov.
