Water Resources Planning Intern
Communications - Basin Outreach (2 Positions Available)
Summer 2019

The Delaware River Basin Commission (DRBC), a federal-interstate water resource management agency, is pleased to offer the following paid, full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) summer internship opportunities to college/university students.

Students must be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work lawfully in the United States.

Water Resources Planning Intern

The Commission is seeking an intern to work in the Water Resource Planning Section to help improve the Commission’s data analysis capabilities.

Job duties include:

  • Populating the Commission’s integrated database with data from withdrawal and discharge projects;
  • Researching reservoir planning and construction history;
  • Reviewing previous approvals to determine their current status; and
  • Compiling locational data for permits and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analyses.

The internship is available for approximately 37.5 hours/week, May – September 2019. Compensation is dependent upon level of education/experience.

Students majoring in environmental science, geology, engineering, or planning are encouraged to apply.

Communications - Basin Outreach (2 Positions Available)

This position coordinates, collaborates, and conducts events including, but not limited to, community meetings, presentations, activities, field marketing events, projects, etc.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Securing event locations and ensuring appropriate site positioning and set up of appropriate displays;
  • Maintain event calendar: secure event locations and handle event requests;
  • Represents DRBC to public audiences while executing public education/awareness programs; and
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to design, organize, and facilitate educational outreach meetings;
  • Ability to work evening and weekend events when required;
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, and flexible;
  • Be able to multitask and meet changing deadlines;
  • Be self-directed and able to complete projects with limited supervision;
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team;
  • Have an interest in science and the environment; and
  • Have an interest in and sensitivity toward working with diverse populations.

Specific Qualifications:

  • College or University student, major in communications/public relations/advertising or related field;
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher);
  • Strong social media skills;
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 – 55 pounds, as well as stand for prolonged periods; and
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
