The DRBC's Delaware River Basin Seasonal Photo Contest was launched to highlight original, striking images that capture both the importance and beauty of the basin’s water resources.

We encourage entries from all over the basin, in both rural and urban settings. Photos may have been previously used by other organizations within the Delaware River Basin.

Contest Rules and Information

New for the Winter 2018-2019 Contest!

This season, we are pleased to announce that Carl LaVO, author, journalist, and former Bucks County Courier Times Editor, will be joining the DRBC judging team as a guest judge!

Photo Contest Rules:

  • The contest is open to everyone. However, DRBC staff and their family members are prohibited from entering.
  • Individuals can enter as many photos as they would like.
  • Entries must be:
    • The original work of the entrant (either an individual or organization).
    • Submitted as a high resolution image file.
    • Taken in the Delaware River Basin. 
    • Accompanied by a signed DRBC photo release form.
    • Respectful of the rights, sensitivities, and culture of any persons depicted.
    • An accurate reflection of the subject matter and scene as it appeared, without alteration (other than standard optimization, removal of dust, cropping, adjustments to color and contrast, sharpness, etc.)
    • Submitted digitally and accompanied by a brief description, as well as an indication of where the photo was taken (must be taken in the DRB).
    • Not include any text or watermark on the image.
  • Entry in the contest constitutes permission for DRBC to use the images for publication at its discretion, with credit to the photographer when possible.
  • Each entry must be accompanied with a completed photo release form (pdf 349 KB). This form can be filled in electronically or printed and completed.
  • Entries grant DRBC the right to use and publish the photographer’s legal name and municipality of residence online and in print, or in any other media for editorials, advertising, and promotional purposes in relation to the contest, without payment of additional compensation.
  • By entering, participants release and hold harmless DRBC, their commissioners, directors, employees, attorneys, agents, and representatives from any and all liability for any injuries, loss, claim, action, demand, or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the Photo Contest.

How to Enter, Deadlines:

  • Entrants will submit their photo and completed release form by e-mail to contact@drbc.gov and cc kate.schmidt@drbc.gov.
  • Submissions must be received by:
    • Winter 2018-2019: February 15
    • Spring 2019: May 15
    • Summer 2019: August 15
    • Fall 2019: Nov. 15


  • Seasonal - Winning entries will be selected by a panel of DRBC staff.
  • Annual – Winner will be selected from one of the four seasonal winners (to be announced in January 2019).
  • All winners will be notified by email, and DRBC will announce the winners on its web site and on Twitter (@DRBC1961) and Instagram (drbc1961).


  • All contestants will receive a certificate of appreciation from the commission, signed by DRBC's Executive Director.
  • Seasonal Winner will receive:
    • DRBC CamelBak Sports Water Bottle
    • Press Release Announcement
    • Certificate of Recognition from the commission, signed by DRBC's Executive Director
    • The winning photo will be featured in/on:
      • DRBC Annual Report
      • DRBC social media pages
      • DRBC web site
  • Annual Winner will receive:
    • Press Release Announcement
    • Displayed for one year in the DRBC headquarters
    • Other - TBD
