Deputy Assistant Commissioner - Field Services

Katherine Gallagher is a deputy assistant commissioner for the Division of Field Services at the New Jersey Department of Education. In this role, she oversees northern County Offices of Education as well as the Offices of Student Support Services, Professional Learning Network, and Comprehensive Support.

Before assuming her current role, Ms. Gallagher was division director in the Office of Comprehensive Support. As part of the reimagining of Field Services, she established field-based teams that provide direct support focused on instruction, data, and continuous improvement in districts with Comprehensive and Targeted schools. Previously, Ms. Gallagher oversaw the work of the Regional Achievement Center (RAC) teams in Priority and Focus schools across the state. Having joined the Department as the Regional Achievement Centers (RACs) were launched, Katherine first supported Priority and Focus schools in the field as a project manager and data specialist.

Before joining the Department, Ms. Gallagher worked with school districts and boards of education on strategic planning, program development, and funding solutions, and helped to develop school turnaround programs for some of New Jersey's most persistently low-achieving schools. Just before joining the Department, she led the implementation of a school improvement initiative at the high-school level.

A proud graduate of New Jersey public schools from Kindergarten through law school, Ms. Gallagher earned a Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, in English and Sociology from Rutgers College, and a Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law-Newark.
