Choice Program
The Central Regional School District is located in the Bayville section of Berkeley Township, drawing students from the nearby areas of Berkeley Township, Island Heights, Ocean Gate, Seaside Heights and Seaside Park. The district is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, the Barnegat Bay, and the Pine Barrens of Southern New Jersey – an area rich in culture, tradition, and environmental learning opportunities outside the traditional classroom. Central Regional is one of the only districts that still has field trips to enhance the learning process from our trips to Washington, DC, Whale watching in Boston, our Chorus performing in Carnegie Hall and the White House, and many more education and fun trips for students.
Starting in seventh grade students create a learning portfolio which will allow teachers to provide an individualized educational plan. Juniors receive a SAT review course and seniors can take up to 18 college credits at no cost to them through the Humanities Academy – a partnership with Georgian Court University where professors teach on the Central Regional campus. When students start the Humanities Academy as freshmen, they can graduate with 30 college credits. The district is adding new academies each year, including our digital media academy. Students also have an opportunity to join the JROTC program beginning in the ninth grade. We have added our new Jump Start Academy with OCC this year and have gone to Block Scheduling for the 2019 -2020 school year. This will offer students more options and reduce stress.
Choice Seats Availability
The purpose of the chart below is to inform parents of choice seat availability before the application deadline in early December. After the deadline, the information will be outdated.
The Department of Education limits the number of choice seats that each district can fill. The “maximum number of new choice students that can be enrolled” tells parents how many new choice students the district can enroll in the next school year. If more than the maximum number of applications is received, a lottery will be held and a waitlist will be developed. Waitlists will be developed for all approved choice grades even if no seats are currently available. NA indicates the district is not accepting choice applications for those grades.
