New Jersey Department of Education

2019 Statewide Conference

Dr. Tyrone Howard

This statewide conference was a single day event designed to represent the diversity and excellence of public education in New Jersey. It illuminated the work that educators, schools and districts are doing to strengthen teaching, leading and learning through the lens of equity. This conference featured individuals who served as models for other educators and school systems throughout the state for how they provided equitable access and opportunities to students. In the end we promoted cross district collaboration and partnership, where districts learned promising practices and exchange resources with one another.

The keynote address at the 2019 NJDOE Statewide Conference was delivered by Dr. Tyrone Howard, who is professor in the Graduate School of Education and Information Studies at UCLA. Dr. Howard is an endowed chair and the inaugural director of the new UCLA Pritzker Center for Strengthening Children and Families, which is a campus wide consortium examining academic, mental health, and social emotional experiences and challenges for the California’s most vulnerable youth populations.
