There is no question that our educators are the primary source of a high-quality education and that supporting our educators means supporting our students. As our school communities recover from the pandemic, this support comes in many forms including targeted and enhanced professional development opportunities focused on techniques to accelerate learning, mental health and well-being supports for school staff, and the recruitment and retention of diverse and highly-qualified educators with the understanding that these endeavors are necessary to grow the educational ecosystem and provide the best environment for students.
The Office of Recruitment, Preparation and Certification (RPC) indirectly impacts learning acceleration through our workstreams designed to strengthen the educator workforce and build a more robust teacher pipeline. The success of learning acceleration efforts is dependent upon improving the quality of the workforce and addressing hard-to-fill teaching positions. The following RPC workstreams support educator workforce development and pipeline:
- Diversifying the Teacher Workforce Initiative
- Educator Preparation program guidance and support
- Limited Certificate of Eligibility/Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing (CE/CEAS) Pilot Program
- New Jersey Educator Certification (NJEdCert) System Implementation
- Customer service enhancements
- Provisional Teacher Process
- N.J.A.C. 6A:9, 9A, 9B, and 9C
The New Jersey Department of Education is seeking to launch the Reading Acceleration Professional Integrated Development (RAPID) initiative to support and bolster foundational literacy. This initiative will target literacy in early elementary grades (Kindergarten through Grade 3). The Department will identify vendors with capacity to provide professional development opportunities for New Jersey educators and to create professional development resources targeting learning acceleration in early literacy.
The Reading Acceleration Professional Integrated Development (RAPID) Plus Initiative will bolster literacy in upper elementary grades (Grades 4 through 6). The Department will partner with New Jersey institutes of higher education to provide professional development opportunities for New Jersey educators, and to create resources supporting learning acceleration in literacy.
IN DEVELOPMENT
A comprehensive set of learning acceleration supports will be released with the anticipated adoption of the 2023 New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) in English Language Arts and Mathematics, which will be known collectively as the Standards Transparency and Mastery Platform (STAMP). Many of the STAMP resources will provide standards-specific instructional supports to accelerate learning through the implementation of the newly adopted NJSLS.
