New Jersey's Alternate Care Sites

Expanded hospital capacity

The state Department of Health has also worked with hospitals to increase bed capacity. A former gym at New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus has been transformed into a 30-bed facility and a 100-bed tented facility had been added outside through the work of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In addition, 37 beds have been added to St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. Salem Memorial Hospital, Hackensack Meridian – Pascack Valley and St. Joseph’s hospital have all increased capacity as well.

The state Health Department is actively working with local health departments that have reserved rooms at  hotels for individuals who are in quarantine, as well as to provide care to COVID-positive health care workers and community members who are in need of a safe place to isolate but no longer need medical care.
