COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program

New Jersey residents can now apply for up to $25,000 to help pay housing costs if they have been unable, or will be unable, to make payments due to the ongoing pandemic.

To be eligible for the COVID-19 Housing Assistance Program, you must:

  • Be a New Jersey Resident;
  • Prove that you could not pay rent/mortgage due to the COVID-19; and
  • Earn less than 450 percent of the federal poverty level.

After initial application review, eligible households will need to submit documentation to show they meet the income requirement and were unable to pay their rent or mortgage due to COVID-19. Documentation may include two recent pay stubs, an employer letter, proof of receiving unemployment insurance benefits and bank statements. You will also need proof of a current lease, rental agreement or mortgage information, and a letter from your landlord documenting your pay history and status.

Applications will be processed until funding is exhausted or no later than December 18, 2020, whichever happens sooner.
