Living on a fixed income? You may qualify for benefits that help you pay prescription costs, Medicare premiums, and other living expenses.

Senior Gold

Senior Gold Prescirption Discont Program

You pay only $15 plus 50% of the remaining drug cost

 

Once you have paid $2,000 for a single person, $3,000 for a couple in prescription costs, your copay is just $15 per drug

Annual income between $27,189 and $37,189 for an individual, and between $33,334 and $43,334 for a couple.

 

There is no resource limit

Resident of New Jersey age 65 or older, or age 18 to 64 and receiving Social Security Disability benefits

Through NJ Save

PAAD

Pharmaceutical Assistance to the Aged and Disabled

You pay only $5 for generic prescriptions and  $7 for name brand prescriptions

 

Annual income less than $27,189 for an individual, and less than $33,334 for a couple

 

There is no resource limit

Resident of New Jersey age 65 or older, or age 18 to 64 and receiving Social Security Disability benefits

Through NJ Save

LIS

Low-Income Subsidy (also known as Extra Help)

The program can pay your Medicare Part D premium and lower your prescription co-pay amount all year long (even in the coverage gap often called “the donut hole”).

 

The program also pays any late enrollment penalty, if applicable

 

Annual income less than $18,210 for an individual, and less than $24,690 for a couple

 

Resources (not including your home or car) of less than  $14,100 for an individual, and less than $28,150 for a couple

 

Resident of New Jersey eligible for and/or enrolled in Medicare Part D

Through NJ Save

 

SLMB & QI-1

Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary & Qualifed Individual (also known as Medicare Savings Programs)

The program pays your Medicare Part B premium, currently $134 per month, or $1,608 per year

 

The program also pays any late enrollment penalty, if applicable

 

Annual income less than $16,389 for an individual, and less than $22,221 for a couple

 

Resources (not including your home or car) of less than  $7,560 for an individual, and less than $11,340 for a couple

 

Resident of New Jersey eligible for and/or enrolled in Medicare Part B

Through NJ Save

 
 
Can I get help completing the NJ Save Application?

Written instructions and a video tutorial that take you question by question through the application are available on-line.

You can call the New Jersey Division of Aging Services' benefits hotline at 1-800-792-9745.

You can also get help by contacting your county-based Area Agency on Aging (AAA) or State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP).

In addition to the services outlined above, you may be eligible for other services and supports to help you meet your medical, financial and social needs.  For information and assistance call the Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC) toll-free at 1-877-222-3737.
