DHS's Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) serves more than 36,000 people with developmental disabilities. These include disabilities such as intellectual disabilities, cerebral palsy, autism, epilepsy, spina bifida, traumatic brain injuries and certain neurological impairments.

DDD operates seven developmental centers, where people with developmental disabilities receive round-the-clock care.

DDD also licenses privately operated group homes, supervised apartments, supported living and skill development programs, and family care homes in communities throughout the State.

Most of the people served by DDD live at home with their families. Others reside in living arrangements that are funded and licensed by the division.

Services include counseling, respite care for family members, and referral services to other community-based resources needed. Almost all of these living settings require nursing care of some level for the person served by DDD.

DDD Regional Staff Nurses...

DDD Regional Staff Nurses (RSN) are registered nurses within the Division of Developmental Disabilities Community Services, working out of four regions throughout the State of New Jersey.

The Regional Staff Nurse is the medical resource person for the client, the staff, administration, and case managers. RSNs respond to consultations and referrals from case managers, skill sponsors, clients, staff, and others. They may provide case management services, pre-admission screening, or environmental evaluations. Working with the other members of the team, the nurses provide a diversity of services.

Developmental Center Nurses...

Developmental Center Nurses provide continual medical care for residents who live in DDD's seven Developmental Centers as part of a community, because these individuals have the most severe disabilities.
