Medicaid

Evacuees with Medicaid from Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama may apply at their local county board of social services or municipal welfare agency for expedited evaluation for NJ medical assistance and program ID cards. Evacuees with immediate health care needs in NJ should contact their county board of social services.

For new applicants, Medicaid categories are limited to very low income families with dependent children, pregnant women, children to age 21, individuals age 65 and older, or individuals determined blind or permanently disabled. Residency requirements will be waived for evacuees. Pregnant women, children, and other qualified aliens may be eligible, regardless of their date of entry into the United States.

NJ FamilyCare

NJ FamlyCare offers free or low cost health insurance for uninsured children 18 years old or younger and certain low-income parents who live in New Jersey. Lawful permanent residents or those in a qualified immigrant status may be eligible, regardless of their date of entry into the United States. Assets are not a determining factor and no one is turned down due to a pre-existing medical condition.

Information for the Disabled

The Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired coordinates and provides preventive, rehabilitative, and assistive services to people who are blind or visually impaired or at risk of becoming so.

The Division of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing is the state’s central information and referral service for people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

The Division of Developmental Disabilities coordinates and provides services for people with autism, mental retardation, cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and traumatic brain injuries.

The Division of Disability Services provides information and referral services to people with disabilities and their families, who are seeking help locating appropriate resources in their communities. Health Care for People with Disabilities is provided by the Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services, through its New Jersey Care 2000+ program.
