50th Anniversary Commemoration of Signing of the Korean War Armistice - July 28, 2003

A ceremony will be held at the New Jersey Korean War Memorial on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City at 11 a.m. on Monday, 28 July 2003, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Korean War Armistice.  The Republic of Korea Consul General, Ambassador Wonil Cho, and the former Commandant of the United States Marine Corps, General (Retired) Alfred Gray, a Korean War Veteran, will be Guest Speakers at this ceremony.  The public is welcome to attend.

Free 2003 New Jersey Deer Permits are available to members of the New Jersey National Guard.

Active members of the NJ Army and Air National Guard, who have a NJ 2003 Firearm or Bow and Arrow License are entitled to one free Firearm (Shotgun or Muzzleloader) and/or one free Bow and Arrow Deer Permit through the National Guard's Free Hunting License Program.  To receive a free Firearm and/or Bow and Arrow Permit, a qualified National Guard member must complete a 2003 National Guard Deer Permit and mail it to:  DMVA, Attn:  1SG (Ret) Edward Turrian, F/IASD-ASB-AS, PO Box 340, Trenton, NJ 08625-0340.  NJNG members may apply for four permits through this program; two free permits, (1) Firearm, (1) Bow and Arrow, and (2) paid permits, (1) Firearm and (1) Bow and Arrow.  Applications must be received at DMVA, F/IASD-ASB-AS Office not later than the 28 August 2003 cut-off date.  For additional assistance or information, contact 1SG (Ret) Edward Turrian at (609) 530-6866.

DMVA Veterans Service Officers' FY 03 Report.

During FY 03, the Veterans Service Officers of DMVA assisted with the processing of 3,238 claims for our veterans and their dependents.  That effort produced 4,789 awards, which were worth in excess of $48 million ($48,093,253.39).  Congratulations on your outstanding performance!

NJ Friends of the Guard and Reserve's 2003 State Chairman's Annual Golf Outing is scheduled.

This year's ESGR State Chairman's Annual Golf Outing will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2003 at Falcon Creek Golf Course, McGuire Air Force Base.  Registration and Continental Breakfast begin at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m.  All proceeds to benefit the activities of the NJ Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.  Reservations are limited to the first 144 players.  A donation of $75 per person includes green fees, cart, registration and dinner.  (Dinner Only - $35).  Names of your foursome and checks made payable to NJFOGR Inc. should be sent to LTC (Ret) Rich Fox, 131 Eggert Crossing Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.  If you have any questions or need additional information, you can reach LTC Fox at 609-530-7019/7020.

Digital Signatures Required.

The Department of Defense (DoD) has mandated that all DoD emails sent after 1 October 2003 are digitally signed, and that the Common Access Card (CAC) will serve as the primary token platform for the DoD Class 3 PKI certificate that is required to do this.  A CAC reader and software must be installed on computers to use the CAC's resident PKI certificates.  The New Jersey Army National Guard will install CAC readers as part of the software upgrade that is currently underway.  It is the intent of the Chief Information Officer (CIO)/G6 of the Army that no full-time soldier, civilian, or contractor will have full access to Army networks without an AKO email account as the default reply address, a CAC issued under the AKO email address, and a CAC reader (limited access still possible on a case by case basis with userid and password.  Wartime exemptions will be made).

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs community-based Outreach Center (CBOC) opened on Monday, 21 July 2003. 

A U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) community-based Outreach Center opened on Monday, 21 July 2003.This is the first clinic with a cooperative agreement between the VA and the U.S. Department of Defense/U.S. Army.  This clinic will provide quality care and services while relieving the overcrowded conditions at the VA's Brick, NJ clinic.  The clinic is part of Congressman Chris Smith's effort to improve health care for veterans.  Congressman Smith and VA Secretary Anthony Principi were the keynote speakers.
