Renewing Online

You are eligible to renew online if you have received a notice from the Motor Vehicle Commission with instructions. Otherwise, you will need to go to an agency (see below).

Current New Jersey driver license/ID or license renewal notice. Make sure that the expiration date on your license has not passed yet. If it has, you will need to renew your license in-person at an MVC agency.

In order to upgrade to a REAL ID license, you must visit an MVC agency in-person.

Renewing in-person

  • 6 points of ID. Read more about the 6 points of ID.
  • Proof of address
  • A $24 fee for a standard license to be paid at the agency by credit/debit card, cash, check, or money order (payable to NJMVC).
  • Additional fee is required for added endorsements or classes.
  • Fill out Auto License Application or Non-Driver ID Application and submit it, with your documents and fees, at one of the counters.
  • Have your photo taken.
  • Receive your new license.
