Same-Day Online Renewal

Renew your license online.
Your license is renewed immediately. You can print out a receipt to carry with you in case your license expires before you receive the new one in the mail (2-4 weeks). Even if your renewal form says you are required to visit an agency in person, most are eligible for online renewal. Please note: due to a 2020 security change, Licenses/IDs are no longer printed in person. Even if you process a renewal at an agency, it will be mailed to you
If your license is a Commercial Driver License (CDL), or if your visa is expiring, you will need to visit a Licensing Center in person.  Schedule your renewal appointment online.
If your license is expired more than three (3) years, you will have to start over as a first-time driver.  NJ MVC | First Driver License.
* Has your address changed? If so, you need to change your address before renewing your online.

Renewing in-person

If you are ineligible to renew online, you must make an appointment to renew your license.

  • 6 points of ID. Read more about the 6 points of ID.
  • Proof of address
  • A $24 fee for a standard license to be paid at the agency by credit/debit card, cash, check, or money order (payable to NJMVC).
  • Additional fee is required for added endorsements or classes.
  • Schedule your renewal appointment online.
  • Fill out Auto License Application or Non-Driver ID Application and submit it, with your documents and fees, at one of the counters.
  • Have your photo taken.
  • Your new license or non-driver ID will be mailed to you.
  • Completed Application for Permit/License/Non-Driver ID (Form BA-208).
