Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live!

Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live! September 21

This year we’re celebrating the influence of music. Enjoy a live musical performance in the Auditorium at 11:00am by David Fry, “Voice of the People: A History of American Folk Music.” This interactive and entertaining musical experience explores the rich history of folk music, from “Yankee Doodle,” “This Land is Your Land,” and “The Cat Came Back” to good old rock and roll, playground songs, and jump rope games and dances. Dave Fry makes this distinctly American music a creative, contemporary, and accessible art form-and everyone will be dancing and singing in the end. Visit the STEAM Center to discover how music influences visual artists and vice versa with historic and modern examples. Try your hand at creating art based on your favorite song! Drop in to the Imagination Studio and create your own instrument out of recycled materials. Plus - enjoy FREE Planetarium shows all day - programs at 12, 1, 2 and 3pm. Download your free ticket at this link www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/search/?q= starting August 15.
