Public Invited to Participate
in Long-Range Transportation Plan

The New Jersey Department of Transportation, NJ Transit and other state transportation organizations have scheduled a series of public information centers throughout the state to invite and encourage the public to become involved in the development of the state's long-range transportation plan -- Transportation Choices 2025.

Two of four scheduled information centers were recently held at Penn Station in Newark, and PATCO's Woodcrest Station in Cherry Hill. The two remaining information centers have now been scheduled at the Atlantic City Bus Terminal in Atlantic City on Tuesday, June 27, from 4 p.m. to 7p.m.; and at the Bridgewater Commons Mall in Bridgewater (Somerset County) on Thursday, June 29, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The public can also go on-line to a website developed by NJDOT that gives citizens information about the long-range plan, lets them play a virtual budget game, fill out surveys, offer comments and link with other transportation websites.

Transportation Choices 2025 will update the state's current long-range plan and identify strategies to improve New Jersey's transportation system over the next 25 years. The plan will examine the state=s highway and public transit systems, as well as look at travel alternatives, smart growth and movement of goods across the state.

The public information centers afford the public the opportunity to hear how the plan will be developed and offer comments and suggestions on how state transportation planners can improve the system. A video will be shown at the information centers giving an overview of important transportation challenges facing the state.
