Commissioner Fox discusses
pedestrian safety in Elizabeth

Transportation Commissioner Jamie Fox today joined state and local officals to address pedestrian safety issues in the City of Elizabeth.

"My administration is committed to making our roads and bridges safer, and that means also paying attention to the pedestrians who use these facilities every day," Governor James E. McGreevey said. Good transportation means providing top notch safety for the 160,000 New Jerseyans who walk or bike to work each day."

"I am pleased to report that the Department of Transportation is both proposing and undertaking a variety of pedestrian safety improvements in the City of Elizabeth on state and local roads," Commissioner Fox said. "Thanks to the efforts of Mayor Bollwage, Senator Lesniak, and Assemblymen Cryan and Cohen, safety is coming first in the City of Elizabeth."

Route 1&9 is a top priority for capital and safety improvements, along with routes 439 and 82. Local roads like Maple Avenue, North Avenue, Grier Avenue, and others, will also receive safety improvements.

Commissioner Fox and NJDOT safety staff have been working closely with Mayor Bollwage, Senator Lesniak, and Assemblymen Cryan and Cohen on these improvements.
