NJDOT to replace bridge decks over major highways
in Bridgewater Township

(Trenton) -- Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) on Wednesday, April 25 will begin the reconstruction of the bridges on Woodlawn Avenue over I-287 and Garretson Road over Routes 202 and 206 in Bridgewater Township, Somerset County.

The $2.3 million project will replace the two existing, deteriorated bridge decks and resurface Garretson Road and Woodlawn Avenue on both sides of each overpass. New sidewalks and guiderail will also be installed along Garretson Road and Woodlawn Avenue. Construction is scheduled to be complete in late October 2007.

Beginning on Monday May 7, 2007 heavy trucks will be detoured around the construction zone. All other vehicles and school buses, except heavy trucks, can travel on both overpasses during the first stage of the project. From July 1, 2007 to August 28, 2007 all vehicles will be detoured.

The detour route will be as follows:

• Take Garretson Road/Woodlawn Avenue west and turn left onto Commons Way south. Take Commons Way south to Prince Rodgers Avenue. Turn left onto Prince Rodgers Avenue. Follow Prince Rodgers Avenue to North Bridge Street. Turn left onto North Bridge Street north. Follow North Bridge Street to Garretson Road/Woodlawn Avenue. Turn left on Garretson Road/Woodlawn Avenue to complete the detour.

• Follow the above in reverse if traveling from the east side of the Garretson Road/Woodlawn Avenue structures.

Portable Variable Message Signs will be placed at each end of the project to inform motorists of the lane closures. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.njcommuter.com for emergency information.
