NJDOT celebrates completion of new
United States Avenue Bridge in Lindenwold

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Kris Kolluri and Mayor Frank DeLucca, Jr. of Lindenwold today celebrated the completion of the new United States Avenue Bridge, which carries the road over NJ Transit’s Atlantic City Line in Lindenwold.

“The new United States Avenue Bridge will improve traffic flow in Lindenwold by providing a third crossing over the railroad line and increase safety through the rehabilitation of the existing bridge for pedestrian and bicycle use,” said Commissioner Kolluri. “Maintaining mobility on this bridge is important for the future growth and economic vitality of the region, while the rehabilitation of the existing bridge reflects respect for the historic value of the 103-year old structure.”

The $7.3 million state-funded United States Avenue project provides a new, one-span steel vehicular bridge as well as the rehabilitation of the existing bridge for pedestrian and bicycle use. The old three-span bridge, which was built in 1904 and rehabilitated in 1984, has been closed to vehicular traffic since 2000 due to its poor condition.

The new bridge will decrease traffic congestion at the three railroad crossings in Lindenwold and reduce the nearby fire station’s emergency response time for emergencies south of the bridge.
