(Trenton) The New Jersey Department of Transportation today announced that Route 202 in the vicinity of the Mine Brook Bridge in the Borough of Bernardsville, Somerset County, will be closed to traffic beginning at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2005 and ending at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2007.

The roadway will be closed to allow the Jersey Central Power & Light Company to perform utility work near the bridge. A detour route for cars and trucks will be in effect during the closure.

Detour for cars

Cars on Route 202 will be detoured to Whitenack and Meeker roads in the Borough of Bernardsville. The length of this detour is approximately three miles. Signs will be posted to guide motorists on the detour route.

Detour for trucks

Trucks on Route 202 will be detoured to I-287 and County Route 525 in the boroughs of Bernardsville and Far Hills. The length of this detour is approximately seven miles. Signs will be posted to guide truck drivers on the detour route.

Motorists are advised to avoid Route 202 during the hours of the closure. In case of inclement weather, the work will be rescheduled. Motorists can visit www.njcommuter.com for real time traffic information.

Motorists should also be advised that on June 16, 2007, this detour will be put into effect again as part of the replacement of the Mine Brook Bridge. The detour will be in effect around the clock through August 31, 2007 to allow for the complete replacement of the two-lane Mine Brook Bridge. Motorists are urged to avoid Route 202 and use parallel roadways such as I-287. The $2.3 million bridge replacement project is federally funded.
