on Route 12 in Flemington

(Trenton) The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that a one-mile portion of Route 12 in Flemington Borough, Hunterdon County will temporarily close in order to repair and rehabilitate a railroad grade crossing.

Route 12 between Stangl Road and Brown Street will close at 6 a.m. on Monday, June 25 and reopen by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27. Access to the Liberty Village Premium Outlets and all local businesses and residential areas will be maintained during the construction period.

The following detour will be in effect during the closure:

• Motorists traveling eastbound on Route 12 will be directed left onto Mine Street (CR-523), right onto Main Street and back to Route 12.

• Motorists traveling westbound on Route 12 will be directed right onto Main Street, left onto Mine Street (CR-523) and back to Route 12.

In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing on Route 12, NJDOT will replace the existing tracks with new, long-life railroad tracks, repave the asphalt approaches and add traffic striping.

This project is part of NJDOT’s ongoing railroad grade crossing safety program to repair and upgrade 30 crossings each year. Motorists are advised to avoid this section of Flemington during the hours of work. Real time traffic information is available at www.njcommuter.com
