NJDOT to resurface I-195 in Hamilton

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced the start of a pavement resurfacing project that will resurface two miles of Interstate 195 eastbound and westbound in Hamilton Township in Mercer County. Resurfacing will begin Monday, July 16, 2007.

“The project will optimize roadway quality and safety along I-195 in Hamilton,” noted Commissioner Kolluri. “The newly resurfaced roadway will provide a much steadier and safer drive for motorists.”

The $3 million project will resurface I-195 eastbound from the Route 295 interchange to east of Hobson Avenue and I-195 westbound from the Route 295 interchange to South Broad Street. In addition, NJDOT will reinforce the I-295 ramp to I-195 eastbound as part of the project. This concentrated effort to repair the deficient roadway will extend the lifespan of this stretch of I-195 by twelve to fifteen years.

Construction will be performed at night in order to mitigate traffic impacts on Route 195, one of the most heavily traveled east-to-west highways in central New Jersey. Periodic late night detours and lane closures may be in effect during construction

NJDOT is working with the State Police to maintain safe conditions for workers and motorists in the construction zone. NJDOT will install Variable Message Signs (VMS) to inform motorists of any change in traffic patterns during nighttime operations. Real-time travel and construction information is available online at www.njcommuter.com.
