NJDOT plans improvements on Route 22
and Mountain Avenue in Union County
(Trenton)- Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) will install new drainage on Route 22 and Mountain Avenue in Mountainside Borough, Union County.
“NJDOT is committed to repairing several stretches of drainage on Route 22,” said Commissioner Kris Kolluri. “Proper road drainage is imperative to driver safety.”
NJDOT will improve the roadway’s drainage by upgrading the existing longitudinal drainage system with larger pipes, additional inlets and a detention basin along Route 22 from the Mountain Avenue underpass to the Echo Lake Channel. NJDOT will increase motorist safety by installing new guide rail along the ramp from Route 22 eastbound to Mountain Avenue to provide protection from the existing bridge abutment.
On August 11, 2008, work will begin on the new detention basin located between Route 22 eastbound and westbound. The inside shoulders on Route 22 will be closed during this work. NJDOT will shift lanes and close a single lane overnight on Route 22 as needed from Monday to Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day, on Fridays from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Saturdays, on Saturdays from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Sundays and on Sundays from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Mondays.
Completion is scheduled for December 2008.
