RELEASE July 2, 2009

NJDOT reopens Route 49 bridge in Upper Township

(Trenton) - Commissioner Stephen Dilts today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) reopened the Route 49 bridge over the NJ TRANSIT Cape May Branch rail line in Upper Township, Cape May County on Thursday morning, July 2.

NJDOT closed the Route 49 Bridge over NJ TRANSIT in October 2008 as part of a $4.2 million project to replace the existing structurally deficient bridge with a higher, pre-fabricated concrete span. NJDOT also has resurfaced the Route 49 approaches to the bridge and improved the existing drainage system on the bridge.

Construction information and real-time traffic updates are available at www.511nj.org.
