NJDOT to rehabilitate Grove Street
bridge over Route 46 in Clifton City

(Trenton) –The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that it will rehabilitate the Grove Street bridge over Route 46 in Clifton City, Passaic County.

“This $2.8 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) project will provide much needed infrastructure improvements on the local roadway system in Clifton City while helping to support the economy and create jobs for New Jersey’s working families,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine.

“Our efforts to upgrade and modernize Route 46 will continue with the help of this funding,” said U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell, Jr. (D-NJ-8), a House Ways and Means Committee member who voted in support of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. “At the same time, this is another example of what we have been seeing across the country throughout this year. The federal stimulus continues to put people to work through projects that make our roads and bridges safer for everyone.”

NJDOT will begin preliminary construction on the north side of the Grove Street bridge over Route 46 during the week of October 12 . In late-October temporary nighttime single-lane closures will be necessary on Route 46 underneath the bridge and Grove Street in order to install temporary shielding construction barrier. Grove Street will be reduced to a single lane once major construction operations begin. NJDOT will maintain two-way traffic via a temporary traffic signal that will alternate northbound and southbound traffic.

NJDOT will fully rehabilitate the structurally deficient Grove Street bridge over Route 46, at milepost 61.09 in Clifton City. In addition, NJDOT will increase the vertical under-clearance of the bridge to 15-feet. Construction is scheduled for completion in October 2010.

Variable message signs will notify motorists of the upcoming roadway closure. NJDOT provides emergency roadway information, construction schedule updates and real time traffic information and images at www.511nj.org.
