(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced upcoming weekend lane closures on Interstate 80 eastbound over an approximately three-mile stretch as part of ongoing work to rehabilitate the highway's pavement surfaces and bridge decks.

On Friday night, December 3, NJDOT will close the two left lanes and left shoulder on I-80 eastbound between milepost 57 and milepost 58 until around midnight Sunday, December 5 for concrete pavement reconstruction. Two travel lanes will be maintained on I-80 eastbound, with traffic shifted to the right and utilizing the shoulder.

On Friday night, December 10, NJDOT will close the two right lanes and right shoulder on I-80 eastbound between milepost 57 and milepost 60 until around midnight Sunday, December 12. Two travel lanes will be maintained on I-80 eastbound with traffic shifted to the left and utilizing the shoulder. The route 80 eastbound exit ramp to Madison Avenue will also be closed for replacement of approach slabs. Traffic intending to take the exit ramp to Madison Avenue will be detoured to Route 19 southbound to Valley Road (CR 621) to Barclay Street (CR 621) to Main Street (CR 601) to Madison Avenue (CR 649).

The $15 million project includes resurfacing and repairing I-80 eastbound from milepost 58.2 to milepost 65.4 in the townships of Elmwood Park, Saddle Brook, Lodi and Hackensack City in Bergen County and Paterson City in Passaic County. Construction began in August 2009 and completion is anticipated by the end of the year.

NJDOT will use variable message signs on I-80 and the New Jersey Turnpike to inform motorists of traffic pattern changes during construction. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.511nj.org.
