Route 52 Causeway overnight closures to be extended for construction activity
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that overnight closures of the Route 52 Causeway between Somers Point and Ocean City will be extended into next week.
The entire causeway will be closed from 8 p.m. until around 6 a.m. the following day Monday, May 2 through Thursday, May 5. The causeway has been closed to traffic Monday through Thursday night for the last two weeks.
The overnight closures are needed to safely accommodate construction crews as they work along a section of the northbound roadway in connection with the $400 million causeway replacement project. The work includes installation of beams for a new bridge and deck repairs on the existing lift bridge at the Ocean City end of the causeway.
The work has been scheduled for nighttime hours to minimize inconvenience to motorists.
Traffic will be detoured to the Ocean City-Longport Bridge or to the 34th Street Bridge.
Variable message signs on Route 52, Route 9 and the Garden State Parkway will alert motorists of the detours. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.511nj.org
