Overnight closures of Route 17 southbound ramp
to I-80 announced
Project to replace Route 17 northbound bridge deck progresses
(Trenton) - NJDOT will close the Route 17 southbound exit ramp connecting to Interstate 80 eastbound overnight this week for ongoing reconstruction efforts.
The ramp is being closed as part of the ongoing $9.9 million Route 17 northbound bridge deck replacement over I-80 in Hackensack and Hasbrouck Heights, Bergen County. Safety shielding is being installed along the ramp for bridge deck demolition operations.
NJDOT is scheduled to close the ramp to traffic 10 p.m. Monday, July 25 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, July 26 and again during those same hours Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights this week. The closure hours for Friday, July 29, are 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday morning. Variable Message signs on Route 17 southbound will direct motorists to Polify Road/Terrace Avenue to I-80 eastbound.
NJDOT’s contractor, Anselmi & DeCicco, began deck replacement operations on the western side of the bridge in March. The bridge deck replacement work is being accomplished in stages so that two travel lanes on Route 17 northbound will remain open to traffic during daytime and peak period hours.
The $9.9 million project will replace the existing, structurally deficient bridge deck and superstructure carrying Route 17 northbound across all lanes of I-80 and widen the bridge to provide a new deceleration lane on the left exiting to South Summit Avenue. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2012.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weatheror other factors. NJDOT provides emergency roadway information, construction schedule updates and real time traffic information and images at www.511nj.org
