Traffic plan announced to help handle crowds at weekend music festival in Asbury Park

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a traffic management plan has been coordinated to help accommodate tens of thousands of music fans expected to visit Asbury Park this weekend to attend the Bamboozle Festival.

In advance of the concert, NJDOT has been communicating with local municipalities, police departments, and the NJ State Police for weeks to understand the event and determine the most effective use of available resources. NJDOT will work in a coordinated fashion with those entities to mitigate the impact the event will have on the area roadways, in particular Interstate 195, and Routes 18, 35, 66, and 71.

Equipment will be deployed at multiple locations throughout the area to notify the public about the event and assist in safely managing the flow of traffic onto into and out of the event during the weekend. The Department will utilize 12 portable Variable message signs to provide traffic information and updates to motorists on the major local highways.

Personnel will also be deployed through the area to monitor conditions on the affected roadways and respond in a coordinated fashion to address any immediate concerns.

NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org and telephone service 511 will feature regular updates on travel conditions around the Asbury Park area. The following Real-time Severity Alert is being provided on 511:

ATTENTION MOTORISTS: The Bamboozle Festival will be performing on the Asbury Park Boardwalk on May 18, 19 & 20 . Motorists will experience higher than normal traffic volumes, congestion, and possible detours on the following roadways: The Garden State Parkway, I-195, and NJ 71, NJ 18, NJ 66, NJ 35 and NJ 36.
