NJDOT announces drawbridge opening plan for
Route 35 over Cheesequake Creek
Regular half-hour openings planned this Sunday to accommodate increased marine access

(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a coordinated series of openings for the Route 35 drawbridge over Cheesequake Creek connecting Old Bridge and Sayreville in Middlesex County this weekend.

Local marinas experienced heavy damage during Hurricane Sandy. In order to accommodate increased boat and marine salvage equipment operations in the Creek, NJDOT will be opening the bridge for up to 30 minutes on the hour between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. this Sunday, November 11. The bridge openings are planned to coincide with high tide.

NJDOT has a $25 million project ongoing to replace the bridge decks, sidewalks, railings and median on the 70-year-old structure. The project is anticipated to be complete by fall 2013.

Dynamic Message Signs are in place notifying motorists of the bridge opening plan. The Department advises motorists in the area to expect traffic delays throughout the morning. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
