I-80 westbound express lanes
to return to final configuration

Eastbound Exit 45 to be closed
and detoured for daytime repairs

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the I-80 westbound express lanes will be returned to its final configuration this week as the Interstate 80 roadway rehabilitation project nears completion in Parsippany-Troy Hills, Morris County.

Beginning tonight, NJDOT’s contractor, Union Paving & Construction Co., is scheduled to return the I-80 westbound express lanes to its final configuration, between approximately South Beverwyk Road and Route 202/Littleton Road. This work will require temporarily closing one of the two westbound express lanes, as well as the ramp from I-287 southbound to I-80 westbound. The final configuration includes three westbound express lanes with shoulders.

The following detour will be in place:

  • Motorists travelling on I-287 southbound will be directed to I-80 eastbound to Exit 45/South Beverwyk Road to I-80 westbound.

On Thursday, December 18, the exit ramp from I-287 northbound to I-80 westbound is expected to be closed.

The following detour will be in place:

  • Motorists travelling on I-287 northbound will be directed to Exit 43/Intervale Road westbound to Route 202 southbound to I-287 southbound to I-80 westbound.

I-80 eastbound Exit 45 closure
In separate work on the project, the I-80 eastbound Exit 45 to South Beverwyk road will be closed on Thursday, December 18 for paving repairs.

Union Paving is scheduled to close Exit 45 on I-80 eastbound local lanes after 9 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, December 18, to repair a dip in the pavement. The work is expected to be completed before the afternoon commute.

The following detour will be in place:

  • Motorists will be directed to Exit 47A to I-280 eastbound to Exit 1 to New Road northbound to Route 46 westbound to North Beverwyk Road.

The $73 million project, which began construction in August 2012, is completely rebuilding all lanes of Interstate 80 between the Route 202/Littleton Road interchange (milepost 41.5) and the Beverwyck Road interchange (milepost 45.6), a very busy stretch of highway with an average of 159,000 vehicles traveling it daily.  The highway - which has deteriorated over time and is in need of a complete rehabilitation - is being reconstructed in stages to minimize impacts to motorists.  All I-80 travel lanes will remain open in each direction during peak-period hours throughout construction. Single and double-lane closures will be allowed during overnight and off-peak hours.  The project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.  Motorists are encouraged to check www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
