Route 45 overnight lane closures for the start of resurfacing project in Salem and Gloucester Counties
Alternating lane closures required

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced overnight lane closures on approximately 12 miles of Route 45 for milling and paving work in Salem and Gloucester Counties.

Beginning tonight, Friday, March 18 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday, March 19 and continuing weeknights until the fall of 2016, NJDOT’s contractor, South State, Inc. is scheduled to temporarily close alternating lanes along Route 45 from CR672/Main Street in Woodstown and Pilesgrove in Salem County, to South Harrison, Harrison, and Chestnut Street in Mantua, Gloucester County. The Route 45 resurfacing project will maintain one travel lane in each direction during construction. Shoulder closures will be allowed at any time with no restrictions.

The $5.6 million state-funded Route 45 Resurfacing Project is expected to be completed by fall 2016. In addition to milling and paving work, there will be safety improvements along Route 45 including Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance work at five signalized intersections, concrete curbs, sidewalks, guiderails, and rumble strips. NJDOT has designed the resurfacing work to be performed as a moving operation, closing only one side of the roadway at a time. It is expected the project will require local street detours at times for vehicles attempting to access Route 45. All detours will be coordinated with the local authorities.

Variable message signs and detour signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the resurfacing project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road or ramp closures.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
