Route 94 lane closures required as the bridge over Paulins Kill replacement project begins in Warren County
Alternating traffic necessary as construction advances
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the closure of one lane on the Route 94 Bridge over Paulins Kill Tributary with a long-term alternating traffic pattern as the bridge replacement project begins in Blairstown.
Beginning at 9 p.m., tonight, Friday, March 8, NJDOT’s Contractor, Ritacco Construction Inc., will close the northbound lane of the Route 94 Bridge over Paulins Kill Tributary and implement an alternating traffic pattern. The bridge is located between Stillwater Road/CR 521 and Footbridge Lane. The new traffic pattern will allow demolition and reconstruction of half of the bridge deck and superstructure while maintaining traffic flow in both directions.
Traffic signals were installed at each end of the bridge, one at Stillwater Road/CR 521 and the other at Footbridge Lane. The signals will alternate northbound and southbound traffic over the bridge using a single lane. All traffic will be shifted to the southbound lane. This pattern will continue until summer when traffic will be shifted onto the newly constructed northbound side of the bridge allowing for the demolition and reconstruction of the southbound side of the bridge.
Trucks more than 10 feet wide will be prohibited on Route 94 at CR 521 in Blairstown for the duration of the project. Trucks taking I-80 Exit 4/Route 94 northbound to local destinations south of CR521 will be permitted .
Route 94 northbound from I-80 westbound truck detour:
- Trucks wanting to travel Route 94 northbound from I-80 westbound will be directed to take Exit 25/Route 206 northbound
- Take Route 206 North to Newton
- Turn left on Spring Street
- Turn left on High Street and stay right to Route 94 Southbound
Route 94 northbound from I-80 eastbound truck detour:
- Trucks wanting to travel Route 94 northbound from I-80 eastbound will be directed to continue on I-80 past Exit 4/Route 94 northbound to Exit 25/Route 206 northbound
- Take Route 206 North to Newton
- Turn left on Spring Street
- Turn left on High Street and stay right to Route 94 Southbound
Route 94 southbound truck detour:
(Trucks taking I-80 Exit 4/Route 94 southbound to local destinations south of CR521 will be permitted.)
- Trucks on Route 94 southbound will be directed to take Route 206 South in Newtown
- Take Route 206 South to I-80 westbound
- Take Exit 4/Route 94 north
The $3.7 million federally-funded Route 94 Bridge over Paulins Kill Tributary project will replace the bridge deck and superstructure, which are in poor condition, as well as make substructure modifications to accommodate the improvements. The Paulins Kill Bridge, which is approximately 161 feet long, consists of three spans that were built in 1931. The project is expected to be completed in spring 2020
Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before any upcoming road closures.
