Route 40/Route 45 intersection improvement project begins in Woodstown

Road to be reconstructed and traffic signal improved

(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of the Route 40/Route 45 Woodstown intersection project that will make safety and operational improvements in Woodstown, Salem County.

The $2.25 million federally-funded project will fully reconstruct Route 40 from Green Street to W. Wilson Avenue/Grant Street; resurface Route 45/N. Main Street from Bowen Avenue to the intersection with Route 40, and replace the traffic signal at the intersection of Route 40 and Route 45. In addition, there will be improvements to make curbs and sidewalks ADA compliant. The project has been designed in stages to minimize the effect on traffic.

Work began on Wednesday, April 10 and will continue from 7 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily, Monday through Friday, with NJDOT’s contractor, South State Inc., working on curbs, sidewalks, and traffic signal improvements. There should be little, if any, effect on traffic during this stage.

Roadwork is expected to begin later this spring and will include traffic shifts to reconstruct approximately one third of Route 40 at a time. Two-way traffic will be maintained during construction. Construction is expected to be completed this fall. NJDOT will provide advanced notice before any lane closures or shifts as the project advances.

Variable Message Signs will provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.

Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
