Route 18 overnight lane closures needed to implement traffic shift this weekend in Middlesex and Monmouth Counties
Temporary closures needed to prepare for curb and sidewalk work
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced temporary overnight lane closures are required to shift traffic on Route 18 between Main Street and Rues Lane in East Brunswick as the pavement rehabilitation project advances in Middlesex and Monmouth Counties.
Beginning at 8 p.m. tomorrow night, Friday, April 12 until 7 a.m., Saturday, April 13, NJDOT’s contractor, Earle Asphalt, is scheduled to close the left lane of Route 18 northbound, between Main Street and Rues Lane, for restriping to implement a traffic shift towards the center median. The shift will reduce the lane widths while maintaining all current lanes. The shift will allow for repairs and replacement of curbs and sidewalks.
The $14.2 million federally-funded Route 18, South of Texas Road to Rues Lane, Pavement Improvement project is designed to improve safety and traffic flow by making improvements to six miles of deteriorated pavement and the installation of pedestrian safety devices. The project is expected to be completed in late fall 2019.
Variable message signs and detour signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the resurfacing project.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
