Q. Why is the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) doing this work?
A. The Route 440 northbound bridge over the ramp from Route 440 southbound to the New Jersey Turnpike Toll Plaza or to Woodbridge Avenue (County Route 514) westbound and the ramp bridge over Woodbridge Avenue (County Route 514) are in need of replacement.
   
Q. How much will it cost?
A.

The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) is funding the cost of this rehabilitation project, which is estimated at $3.9 million.

   
Q. How long will it take to complete?
A. Replacement of the Route 440 northbound bridge deck over the ramp from Route 440 southbound to the New Jersey Turnpike Toll Plaza or to Woodbridge Avenue (County Route 514) westbound is scheduled to begin on June 4, 2010 and be completed by June 21, 2010. The replacement is being accomplished over a sixteen (16) day period using precast beam and deck units to expedite construction through this high traffic volume area.
   
Q. Is the community involved?
A.

Yes. NJDOT has held a local officials' briefing and a pre-construction Public Information Center to answer questions and address comments from interested parties. The NJDOT has made every effort to plan construction activities in a manner that will minimize impacts on traffic.

   
Q. Where can travelers obtain information?
A.

Information will be provided on variable message signs placed on Route 440, I-287, Woodbridge Avenue (County Route 514) and on NJDOT's 511NJ Travel Information Web site. The Keep Middlesex Moving Web site will provide travel information. Travelers may also contact NJDOT's Office of Community Relations at 609.530.2110.
