This webinar is for State Employees (employed by a N.J. State Department, State Agency, State Institution, or a N.J. State College/University). Sessions are presented by an Empower retirement counselor for the New Jersey State Employees Deferred Compensation Plan. It's often also referred to as simply "Deferred Comp."

Learn more about the N.J. State Employees Deferred Compensation Plan (NJSEDCP), an important part of your overall benefits package! The NJSEDCP, a governmental 457(b) plan, allows you to save more for retirement on either a pre-tax or a Roth after-tax basis by making contributions directly from your paycheck. Topics covered include:

PERS and TPAF members are invited to join the NJDPB for a Live Q&A webinar where they can have their general pension-related questions answered in real time. This live Q&A session will be approximately 1 hour in duration. Note: Account-specific questions will not be answered during this session. Due to time constraints, all questions may not be able to be answered.

This webinar is exclusively about the Defined Contribution Retirement Program (DCRP). The session provides information about DCRP eligibility, contributions rates, investment funds that are available within the DCRP, the Goalmaker investment allocation tool, withdrawals, and the overall rules of the plan. We also take a look at Empower’s DCRP website and how to process all changes such as adding a beneficiary and processing a withdrawal online. Sessions are approximately 45 minutes in duration and conclude with a Q&A period.

The options are described in detail so that you can make an informed choice on this very important decision. We will discuss the different options that are available, who can be named as a beneficiary, the effect each option has on your own monthly benefit, and other important advantages and limitations to consider. This webinar is approximately 30 minutes in duration including a Q&A period.

When planning for retirement, you should obtain an estimate of retirement benefits. This webinar is designed to show PERS and TPAF members how to do a retirement estimate using the Member Benefits Online System (MBOS) and the website Long-Range Calculator. We will produce a sample estimate with pension payment options available to PERS and TPAF members. This webinar is approximately 30 minutes in duration including a Q&A period.

In this live webinar, we discuss the benefits of purchasing service credit and the types of service that may be eligible to be purchased. We will explain how a purchase is calculated and review the estimate and application process. The session is approximately 45 minutes in duration including a Q&A period.

Retirement Planning webinars take a step-by-step approach to the retirement process and explain what happens after you submit your application. We explain your benefits, survivor options, group life insurance, loan repayment provisions, and the taxability of your pension. There is also a brief discussion about the State Health Benefits Program (SHBP) or the School Employees' Health Benefits Program (SEHBP). This webinar is approximately 2 ½ to 3 hours in duration including a Q&A period.

Social Security Benefits webinars are designed to complement our Retirement Planning webinars. Sessions are presented by an Empower retirement counselor for the New Jersey State Employees Deferred Compensation Plan.

When it comes to retirement planning, what you don’t know about Social Security could hurt you. Learning all you can about your future Social Security benefits today can give you a more financially secure tomorrow. Topics covered include your eligibility for Social Security benefits, how the Social Security Administration calculates your benefits, maximization strategies that can help you get the most out of your Social Security benefits, spousal benefits and valuable tips for incorporating what you’ve learned about your future Social Security benefits. The webinar is approximately one hour in duration including a Q&A period.

Whether you are a new hire or have been a member of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) or the Teachers’ Pension and Annuity Fund (TPAF) for a while, this class will give you a basic understanding of your pension benefits. Topics covered are enrollment criteria, membership tiers, the Member Benefits Online System (MBOS), beneficiary designation, group life insurance coverage, purchasing service credit, pension loans, retirement formulas and withdrawing. This webinar is approximately 1 ½ hours in duration including a Q&A period.
