Access to government records in the State of New Jersey is dictated not only by the Open Public Records Act ("OPRA"), but also by other state and federal statutes, regulations, and resolutions of the Legislature and the Governor.

OPRA contains 27 exemptions from disclosure of government records.  This means that there are certain government records or types of information that are exempt from disclosure pursuant to OPRA.

One of OPRA's 27 exemptions from disclosure is for exemptions contained in any other state or federal laws.  This means that any exemptions from disclosure contained in other state or federal laws, regulations, or resolutions of the Legislature and the Governor also apply to exempt government records from disclosure in the State of New Jersey.
