FROM: The New Jersey Division of Pensions and Benefits

SUBJECT: EPIC PFRS Enrollment Application

The Division of Pensions and Benefits is pleased to announce that all locations can now enroll Police and Firemen’s Retirement System (PFRS) members online via the Employer Pension and Benefit Information Connection (EPIC).  This memorandum is a follow up to the Certifying Officer Letter dated November 5, 2014.

When an employee is eligible to become a member of the PFRS, log on to EPIC and select the online ‘PFRS Enrollment’ button. Paper Enrollment Applications mailed to the Division of Pensions and Benefits will be returned to you for processing through EPIC, with the exception of paper applications accompanied by an Application for Interfund Transfer.

Certifying Officers should forward this message to their human resources staff, benefit administrators, and any other staff members responsible for the administration of pension benefits for employees.

The Division of Pensions and Benefits is pleased to announce our updated employer training via webinar. These webinars will be offered quarterly for Local Education Employers, Local Government Employers, and State Employers.

Each employer training session is comprised of two parts with the exception of State Employers, which is a single session.  In order to provide the most up-to-date and comprehensive learning experience, we suggest you attend the training in scheduled order, keeping in mind the prerequisites and recommendations for future training opportunities.

RECOMMENDED ADDITIONAL TRAINING:  Pension Processing/EPIC Local Education - Part 2; and Internet Report of Contributions (IROC).

TUESDAY MARCH 3, 2015 – 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM:  PENSION PROCESSING for Local Education Employers — Part 2

Employer Responsibilities: Pension Processing/Employer Pension Information Connection (EPIC) – PREREQUISITE: Pension Processing Local Education - Part 1. This employer training session provides training on the employer's responsibility in the pension and benefit process including purchase of service credit, loans, retirement, health benefits and death claims and how to use the Employer Pensions and Benefits Information Connection (EPIC) for these tasks. RECOMMENDED ADDITIONAL TRAINING:   Internet Report of Contributions (IROC).

TO: Certifying Officers of the Judicial Retirement System (JRS), the Workers’ Compensation Judges (WCJ) Part of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS), and the Office of Administrative Law (OAL)

FROM: The New Jersey Division of Pensions and Benefits

SUBJECT: Special Provisions Related to JRS, PERS Judges of Workers’ Compensation, PERS Administrative Law Judges and Bona Fide Severance of Employment

The attached Certifying Officer letter supplements that of August 22, 2014, and addresses the special provisions for retired members of the Judicial Retirement System (JRS), the Workers’ Compensation Judges Part of the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS), Judges of Workers’ Compensation enrolled in the standard PERS and Administrative Law Judges (ALJs) enrolled in the PERS in regards to post-retirement employment.
