Organic Weed Management Workshop

The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Jersey is offering a workshop 3-5 p.m. at Fernbrook Farms in Chesterfield.  Dr. Jacqueline Ricotta from Delaware Valley College will give a presentation on how to deal with weeds of all types in an organic vegetable production system.  Pre-registration is required.  Click here to go to the registration information.

Farm Bill Series - Dairy Margin Protection Program

Farm Service Agency and Rutgers Cooperative Extension are hosting a series of  meetings designed to inform producers of the new programs offered by the 2014 Farm Bill.  The first series will focus on the Dairy Margin Protection Program.   On Tuesday, October 28, the program will be held at 10 a.m. at Salem RCE, Suite 1, 51 Cheney Rd., Woodstown.  RSVP to 856-769-0090.

The NJNLA is hosting the conference at Aloft Hotel, 558 Fellowship Rd., Mount Laurel, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Topics include, permits, pesticide license rules,

Organic Pest Management Panel Discussion

The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Jersey is offering the panel discussion 6-8 p.m. at the Pinelands Preservation Alliance, 17 Pemberton Rd., Southampton.  The panel will consist of Kris Holstrom from Rutgers Cooperative Extension and several farmers panelists.  This event will give panelists and attendees the opportunity to discuss what they saw this past season, how they managed pest pressures and what they might do differently in the future. On-Farm Leaf Mulching

The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Jersey is offering the workshop from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Muth Family Farm, 1639 Pitman-Downer Rd., Williamstown.  Farmer Bob Muth will discuss on-farm leaf mulching, including spreading, getting the leaves out quickly, DEP regulations, working with municipal agencies, soil conditions and soil test results as they relate to leaf mulching.

Three-Session Organic Certification Class

The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Jersey will offer the course 6-9 p.m. Mondays, Nov. 24, Dec. 1 and Dec. 8 at the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, 14 Maple Ave., Morristown.  Attendees will receive an introduction to organic certification, including an overview of the regulations, an in-depth look at the Organic Systems Plan and an overview of the process in stages.

NOFA-NJ's Winter Conference

The Northeast Organic Farming Association of New Jersey will hold its annual Food and Agriculture Winter Conference at Brookdale Community College, Warner Student Life Center, 765 Newmans Springs Rd., Lincroft.  Tracks include food and nutrition, beginning farming, homesteading, advanced/technical farming, business skills, gardening and community.
