FSMA for Farmers

The New Jersey and Delaware Departments of Agriculture will present a seminar from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Rutgers EcoComplex, 1200 Florence Columbus Rd., Bordentown, NJ.  The seminar will focus on preparing farmers for the implementation of the federal Food Safety Modernization Act, which will occur later this year and into 2016.  There will be presentations on what auditors will be looking for on farms and other information farmers will need to know as the law is enacted.  The session is open to farmers from Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.  For more information contact the NJDA at 609-292-3976.

Certified Pullorum Testing Class

The NJ Department of Agriculture will offer the class 5:30-9 p.m. at the NJ Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory.  Click here for directions. If you own and show poultry or are a 4-H leader or poultry club officer, you should consider being certified as a Pullorum tester for New Jersey.  The state requires all birds going to shows or fairs be tested for this disease.

NJ Junior Breeder's Livestock Symposium

The Department of Agriculture will host the sumposium at Rutgers Cook Campus Farm, former NJ Agricultural Museum, 100 College Farm Rd.  The day will feature sessions on equine show grooming and showmanship, dairy and swine breeding, animal health, poultry housing and rules, nutrition, and 4-H Avian Bowl practice.  The annual Dairy Clip-off and Equine Nutrition Jeopardy will take place.  The first Sheep and Goat Film Festival will be held -- youth created videos are due by March 12.

17th Annual Animal Emergency Working Group (AEWG) Symposium

The Symposium will be held 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Horse Park of New Jersey, 626 Route 524, Allentown, NJ.  Sessions will focus on animal first aid, as well as personal protective equipment and knot-tying.
