Speed Limits For State Roads

Route NJ 124
(a) The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route NJ 124 described in this subsection are hereby established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:
1. In Morris County:
i. In the Town of Morristown:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 30 MPH between Route US 202 and Madison Ave (County Route 601) (approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.69); thence
(B) Zone 2: 40 MPH between Madison Ave (County Route 601) and the Morristown Town-Morris Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 0.69 to 1.50); thence
ii. In the Township of Morris:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Town of Morristown – Morris Township corporate line and the Morris Township – Madison Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 1.50 to 2.78); thence
iii. In the Borough of Madison:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Morris Township-Madison Borough corporate line and Loantaka Way (approximate mileposts 2.78 to 3.60); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Loantaka Way and 200 feet west of King’s Road (approximate mileposts 3.60 to 4.33); thence
(C) Zone 3:  30 MPH between King’s Road and Cross Street except for 25 MPH when passing through the Madison Junior High School zone, during recess when the presence of children is clearly visible from the road, or where children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 4.37 to 5.12); thence
(D) Zone 4: 35 MPH between Cross Street and Madison Borough-Chatham Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 5.12 to 5.90); thence
iv. In the Borough of Chatham:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Madison Borough-Chatham Borough corporate line and Washington Avenue (approximate mileposts 5.90 to 6.47); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Washington Avenue and Summit Avenue (approximate mileposts 6.47 to 6.98); thence
(C) Zone 3: 35 MPH between Summit Avenue and the Chatham Borough – Millburn Township corporate line (Passaic River) (approximate mileposts 6.98 to 7.34); thence
2. In Essex County:
i. In the Township of Millburn:
(1) For westbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Chatham Borough-Millburn Township/City of Summit corporate line (Passaic River) and JFK Parkway (County Route 649) (approximate mileposts 7.34 to 7.44); thence
(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between JFK Parkway (County Route 649) and Hobart Avenue (approximate mileposts 7.44 to 8.96); thence
(C) Zone 3: 40 MPH between Hobart Avenue and a point 1,000 feet west of Farley Place (approximate mileposts 8.96 to 10.03); thence
(D) Zone 4: 35 MPH between and a point 1,000 feet west of Farley Place the Millburn Township-Springfield Township corporate line (Millburn Avenue/County Route 527) (approximate mileposts 10.03 to 10.27); thence
ii. In the Township of Maplewood:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Union Township-Maplewood Township corporate line (Millburn Avenue/County Route 630) and the New Jersey Department of Transporatation-Maplewood Township jurisdictional line (Montclair Avenue) (approximate mileposts 13.26 to 13.29).
NOTE: State Highway Route 124 is under municipal (Maplewood Township) jurisdiction from approximate mileposts 13.29 to 14.74 (end of route).
3. In Union County:
i. In the City of Summit:
(1) For eastbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Chatham Borough-Millburn Township/City of Summit corporate line (Passaic River) and a point 500 feet east of the Canoe Brook Parkway (approximate mileposts 7.34 to 7.76); thence
(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between a point 500 feet east of the Canoe Brook Parkway and Hobart Avenue (approximate mileposts 7.76 to 8.96); thence
(C) Zone 3: 40 MPH between Hobart Avenue and the City of Summit-Springfield Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 8.96 to 9.69); thence
ii. In the Township of Springfield:
(1) For eastbound direction of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the City of Summit – Springfield Township corporate line and Cleveland Place (approximate mileposts 9.69 to 10.04); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Cleveland Place and the Millburn Township – Springfield Township corporate line (Millburn Avenue-County Route 527) (approximate mileposts 10.04 to 10.27); thence
(2) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the prolongation of the Millburn Township – Springfield Township corporate line (Millburn Avenue – County Route 527) and a point 211 feet west of Keeler Street (approximate mileposts 10.27 to 10.90); thence
(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between a point 211 feet west of Keeler Street and Maple Avenue (Victory Road) (approximate mileposts 10.90 to 11.65); thence
(C) Zone 3: 40 MPH between Maple Avenue (Victory Road) and the Springfield Township – Union Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 11.65 to 12.10);thence
iii. In the Township of Union:
(1) For both directions of traffic:
(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Springfield Township-Union Township corporate line and Windsor Avenue (approximate mileposts 12.10 to 12.75); thence
(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Windsor Avenue and the Union Township-Maplewood Township corporate line (Millburn Avenue) (County Route 630) (approximate mileposts 12.75 to 13.26).
