Speed Limits for State Roads


Route NJ 35

(a)

The rate of speed designated for the certain parts of State Highway Route NJ 35 described in this subsection are hereby established and adopted as the maximum legal rate of speed:

1.

In Ocean County:

i.  In the Township of Berkeley:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 25 MPH between Island Beach State Park and the Berkeley Township – Seaside Park Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 0.00 to 0.54); thence

(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between the southern Seaside Heights Borough-Berkeley Township corporate line and the northern Berkeley Township-Seaside Heights Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 2.58 to 2.73); thence

ii. In the Borough of Seaside Park:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between Central Avenue and the Seaside Park Borough-Seaside Heights Borough-corporate line (approximate mileposts 2.21 to 2.42); thence

iii. In the Borough of Seaside Heights:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the Seaside Park Borough-Seaside Heights Borough corporate line and the southern Seaside Heights Borough-Berkeley Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 2.42 to 2.58); thence

(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between the northern Berkeley Township-Seaside Heights Borough corporate line and the Seaside Heights Borough-Toms River Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 2.73 to 3.36); thence

iv. In the Township of Toms River (formerly known as Dover Twp.):

(1)

For the One-Way (northbound) direction of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the Seaside Heights Borough-Toms River Township corporate line and Holiday Road (approximate mileposts 3.36 to 3.62) thence

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between Holiday Road and the southernmost Toms River Township-Lavallette Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 3.62 to 4.35); thence

(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between the northernmost Lavallette Borough- Toms River Township corporate line and the Toms River Township-Brick Township corporate line approximate mileposts 5.60 to 7.24); thence

(2)

For the One-Way (southbound) direction of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the Seaside Heights Borough-Toms River Township corporate line and Eisenhower Avenue (approximate mileposts 3.36 to 3.69); thence

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between Eisenhower Avenue and the southernmost Lavallette Borough-Toms River Township corporate line from May 15 to September 15 (approximate mileposts 3.69 to 4.35); thence

(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between Eisenhower Avenue and the southernmost Lavallette Borough-Toms River Township corporate line from September 15 to May 15 (approximate mileposts 3.69 to 4.35); thence

(C) Zone 3: 35 MPH between the northernmost Toms River Township-Lavallette Borough corporate line and the Brick Township-Toms River Township corporate line from May 15 to September 15 (approximate mileposts 5.60 to 7.24); thence

(D) Zone 4: 45 MPH between the northernmost Toms River Township-Lavallette Borough corporate line and the Brick Township-Toms River Township corporate line from September 15 to May 15 (approximate mileposts 5.60 to 7.24); thence

v. In the Borough of Lavallette:

(1)

For the One-Way (northbound) direction traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the southernmost Toms River Township-Lavallette Borough corporate line and the northernmost Lavallette Borough-Toms River Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 4.35 to 5.60); thence

(2)

For the One-Way (southbound) direction of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the southernmost Toms River Township-Lavallette Borough corporate line and the northernmost Lavallette Borough-Toms River Township corporate line from May 15 to September 15 except for a 25 MPH when passing through the Lavallette Elementary School zone while "25 MPH WHEN FLASHING" sign is operating during recess or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 4.35 to 5.60); thence

(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between the southernmost Toms River Township-Lavallette Borough corporate line and the northernmost Lavallette Borough-Toms River Township corporate line from September 15 to May 15 except for 25 MPH when passing through the Lavallette Elementary School zone while "25 MPH WHEN FLASHING" sign is operating during recess or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 4.35 to 5.60); thence

vi. In the Township of Brick:

(1)

For the One-Way (northbound) direction of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Toms River Township-Brick Township corporate line and Elder Street (approximate mileposts 7.24 to 7.71); thence

(B) Zone 2: 40 MPH between Elder Street and the Brick Township-Mantoloking Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 7.71 to 9.04); thence

(2)

For the One-Way (southbound) direction of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Toms River Township-Brick Township corporate line and the Brick Township-Mantoloking Borough corporate line from May 15 to September 15 (approximate mileposts 7.24 to 9.04); thence

(B) Zone 2: 45 MPH between the Toms River Township-Brick Township corporate line and the Brick Township-Mantoloking Borough corporate line from September 15 to May 15 (approximate mileposts 7.24 to 9.04); thence

vii. In the Borough of Mantoloking:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Brick Township-Mantoloking Borough corporate line and the Mantoloking Borough-Bay Head Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 9.04 to 11.21); thence

viii. In the Borough of Bay Head:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Mantoloking Borough-Bay Head Borough corporate line and Johnson Street (approximate mileposts 11.21 to 11.57); thence

(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Johnson Street and Harris Street (approximate mileposts 11.57 to 12.16); thence

(C) Zone 3: 35 MPH between Harris Street and the Bay Head Borough-Point Pleasant Beach Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 12.16 to 12.48); thence

ix. In the Borough of Point Pleasant Beach:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Bay Head Borough-Point Pleasant Beach Borough corporate line and the southernmost intersection of Route NJ 88 (Sea Avenue) (approximate mileposts 12.48 to 12.88); thence

(2)

For the One-Way (northbound) direction of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the southernmost intersection of Route NJ 88 (Sea Avenue) and the Point Pleasant Beach Borough-Brielle Borough corporate line (Manasquan River) (approximate mileposts 12.88 to 14.50); thence

For the One-Way (southbound) direction of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the southernmost intersection of Route NJ 88 (Sea Avenue) and Broadway Avenue (County Route 635) (approximate mileposts 12.88 to 14.29); thence

(B) Zone 2: 40 MPH Broadway Avenue (County Route 635) and the Point Pleasant Beach Borough-Brielle Borough corporate line (Manasquan River) (approximate mileposts 14.29 to 14.50); thence

In Monmouth County:

NOTE: State Highway Route NJ 35 is coincident with State Highway Route NJ 71 from approximate mileposts 21.06 to 21.41.

i. In the Borough of Brielle:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1:  50 MPH between the Point Pleasant Beach Borough-Brielle Borough corporate line (Manasquan River) and the Brielle Borough-Wall Township corporate line (Old Bridge Road/County Route 20) (approximate mileposts 14.50 to 15.75); thence

ii. In the Township of Wall:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1:  50 MPH between the Brielle Borough-Wall Township corporate line (Old Bridge Road/County Route 20) and Route NJ 35-70 and Route NJ 34 Traffic Circle (approximate mileposts 15.75 to 16.00); thence

(B) Zone 2:  40 MPH between Route NJ 35-70 and the Wall Township-Belmar Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 16.00 to 20.44); thence

iii. In the Borough of Belmar:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(B) Zone 2:  40 MPH between the Wall Township-Belmar Borough corporate line and Belmar Avenue-16th Avenue (approximate mileposts 20.44 to 20.48); thence

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between Belmar Avenue-16th Avenue and the Belmar Borough-Neptune Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 20.48 to 21.63); thence

iv. In the Township of Neptune:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Belmar Borough-Neptune Township corporate line and the southernmost Neptune Township-Neptune City Borough corporate line (Albany Road) (approximate mileposts 21.63 to 22.05); thence

(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between the northernmost Neptune City Borough-Neptune Township corporate line and the Neptune Township-Ocean Township corporate line (Route NJ 35-NJ 66 traffic circle) (approximate mileposts 23.04 to 24.80); thence

v. In the Borough of Neptune City:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the southernmost Neptune Township-Neptune City Borough corporate line (Albany Road) and the northernmost Neptune City Borough-Neptune Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 22.05 to 23.04); thence

vi. In the Township of Ocean:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1:  50 MPH between the Neptune Township-Ocean Township corporate line (Route NJ 35-NJ 66 traffic circle) and the Ocean Township-Eatontown Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 24.80 to 28.09); thence

vii. In the Borough of Eatontown:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1:  50 MPH between the Ocean Township-Eatontown Borough corporate line and Weston Place (approximate mileposts 28.09 to 28.87); thence

(B) Zone 2:  45 MPH between Weston Place and the Route NJ 35-Route NJ 36 traffic circle (approximate mileposts 28.87 to 29.39); thence

(C) Zone 3: 40 MPH between the Route NJ 35-Route NJ 36 traffic circle and Route 71 (approximate mileposts 29.39 to 30.44); thence

(D) Zone 4: 30 MPH between Route 71 and Tinton Avenue (County Route 537) (approximate mileposts 30.44 to 30.66); thence

(E) Zone 5: 40 MPH between Tinton Avenue (County Route 537) and the Eatontown Borough-Shrewsbury Borough/Tinton Falls Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 30.66 to 31.00); thence

viii.In the Borough of Tinton Falls:

(1)

For the southbound direction of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Eatontown Borough-Shrewsbury Borough/Tinton Falls Borough corporate line and the Shrewsbury Borough-Tinton Falls Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 31.00 to 31.01); thence

ix.In the Borough of Shrewsbury:

(1)

For the northbound direction of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Eatontown Borough-Shrewsbury Borough/Tinton Falls Borough corporate line and the Shrewsbury Borough-Tinton Falls Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 31.00 to 31.01); thence

(2)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Shrewsbury Borough-Tinton Falls Borough corporate line and Sycamore Avenue (approximate mileposts 31.01 to 31.87); thence

(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between Sycamore Avenue and the Shrewsbury Borough-Red Bank Borough corporate line except, for 25 MPH when passing through the Shrewsbury Borough Grammar School zone, while “25 MPH When Flashing” signs are operating during recess, when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway, or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 31.87 to 32.87); thence

x.In the Borough of Red Bank:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 35 MPH between the Shrewsbury Borough-Red Bank Borough corporate line and Leroy Place except, for 25 MPH when passing through the Shrewsbury Borough Grammar School zone, while “25 MPH When Flashing” signs are operating during recess, when the presence of children is clearly visible from the roadway, or while children are going to or leaving school, during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 32.87 to 33.47); thence

(B) Zone 2: 30 MPH between Leroy Place and the southerly end of the Navesink River bridge (approximate mileposts 33.47 to 34.30); thence

(C) Zone 3: 40 MPH between the southerly end of the Navesink River bridge and the Red Bank Borough-Middletown Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 34.30 to 34.39); thence

xi. In the Township of Middletown:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 40 MPH between the Red Bank Borough-Middletown Township corporate line and Navesink River Road (Corporate Route 12A) (approximate mileposts 34.39 to 34.70); thence

(B) Zone 2: 50 MPH between Navesink River Road (Corporate Route 12A) and the Middletown Township-Holmdel Township corporate line (Palmer Avenue/County Route 7) (approximate mileposts 34.70 to 39.58); thence

xii. In the Township of Holmdel:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1:  50 MPH between the Middletown Township-Holmdel Township corporate line (Palmer Avenue/County Route 7) and the Holmdel Township-Hazlet Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 39.58 to 41.26); thence

xiii. In the Township of Hazlet:

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1:  50 MPH between the Holmdel Township-Hazlet Township corporate line and the Hazlet Township-Keyport Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 41.26 to 42.93); thence

xv. In the Township of Aberdeen (formerly known as Matawan Township):

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1:  50 MPH between the Keyport Borough-Aberdeen Township corporate line and the Aberdeen Township-Old Bridge Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 44.23 to 45.37); thence

In Middlesex County:

NOTE: State Highway Route NJ 35 is coincident with State Highway Route US 9 approximate mileposts 49.38 to 50.63.

i. In the Township of Old Bridge:

(1)

For both directions of traffic::

(A) Zone 1:  50 MPH between the Aberdeen Township-Old Bridge Township corporate line and Birchwood Drive (approximate mileposts 45.37 to 45.64); thence

(B) Zone 2:  40 MPH between Birchwood Drive and the divided portion in the vicinity of Roman Avenue (approximate mileposts 45.64 to 47.00); thence

(C) Zone 3:  50 MPH between the divided portion in the vicinity of Roman Avenue and the Old Bridge Township-Sayerville Borough corporate line (approximate mileposts 47.00 to 47.26); thence

ii. In the Borough of Sayreville:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1:  50 MPH between the Old Bridge Township-Sayerville Borough corporate line and the Sayerville Borough-South Amboy City corporate line (approximate mileposts 47.26 to 48.82); thence

(A) Zone 1:  35 MPH between the northernmost intersection of Route US 9/Route NJ 35 and the northernmost intersection of Route NJ 35/Main Street (County Route 684) (approximate mileposts 50.63 to 50.76); thence

(B) Zone 2:  40 MPH between the northernmost intersection of Route NJ 35 / Main Street (County Route 684) and 2300 feet north of the northernmost intersection of Route NJ 35 / Main Street (County Route 684) (approximate mileposts 50.76 to 51.20); thence

(C) Zone 3:  50 MPH between 2300 feet north of the northernmost intersection of Route NJ 35/Main Street (County Route 684) and the Sayreville Borough-Perth Amboy corporate line (approximate mileposts 51.20 to 51.75); thence

iii. In the City of South Amboy:

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1:  50 MPH between the Sayerville Borough-South Amboy City corporate line and Route US 9 (approximate mileposts 48.82 to 49.38); thence

(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between 850 feet south of Smith Street and Sayre Avenue (approximate mileposts 52.02 to 52.53); thence

(C) Zone 3: 30 MPH between Sayre Avenue and Harrington Street (approximate mileposts 52.53 to 52.95); thence

(D) Zone 4: 35 MPH between Harrington Street and the Route NJ 440 underpass (approximate mileposts 52.95 to 53.32); thence

(E) Zone 5: 45 MPH between the Route NJ 440 underpass and the City of Perth Amboy–Woodbridge Township corporate line (approximate mileposts 53.32 to 54.08); thence

v. In the Township of Woodbridge:

(1)

For both directions of traffic:

(A) Zone 1: 45 MPH between the City of Perth Amboy-Woodbridge Township corporate line and 700 feet south of Bunns Lane (approximate mileposts 54.08 to 54.62); thence

(B) Zone 2: 35 MPH between 700 feet south of Bunns Lane and Seymour Avenue except, for 25 MPH in the Saint James elementary school zone, during recess or while children are going to or leaving school during opening or closing hours (approximate mileposts 54.62 to 55.70); thence
