McGreevey Names Diane Legreide
to Head Division of Motor Vehicle Services

(Trenton) - Governor James E. McGreevey today announced Diane M. Legreide as his choice to head the Division of Motor Vehicle Services. Legreide currently regulates and licenses the state's casinos as a Commissioner of the Casino Control Commission

"Diane Legreide brings to the DMV a wealth of experience in successfully managing one of the state's most complex industries," McGreevey said. "I am pleased Diane will be the head of the DMV for my administration."

"Diane Legreide will work tirelessly to provide reliable customer service to every driver in New Jersey," said Transportation Commissioner James P. Fox. "I am looking forward to working together with her to bring long overdue improvements to the way DMV delivers registrations, inspections and licenses."

Legreide has served on the Casino Control Commission since 1994, where she licenses casinos, employees and firms doing business with casinos. She also regulates casinos and supervises inspections and the collection of license fees and casino taxes.

"Diane will have no shortage of critical improvements to make at DMV, from repairing and replacing the aging, fragile computer system to implementing a safe and secure digitized driver's license and on-board diagnostic emissions testing," said Fox.

As director of the Division of Motor Vehicle Services, Legreide will supervise more than 1,200 employees who come into contact with customers 15 million times each year. She will be responsible for 46 motor vehicle agencies, four regional service centers, 34 state inspection stations and oversight of the state's private inspection facilities.

Legreide will serve in an acting capacity until the Senate confirms her appointment.

Diane M. Legreide
Director of the Division of Motor Vehicle Services

Diane M. Legreide will bring nearly 20 years of experience in public management to her new post as Director of the Division of Motor Vehicle Services.

Legreide has served on the Casino Control Commission since 1994, where she was responsible for regulating all aspects of the casino industry, including the issuance, suspension and revocation of licenses for corporations, partnerships and individuals; analysis and review of complex financial and corporate restructuring arrangements; collection of fees and taxes, and the adoption and modification of gaming rules and other regulations. Legreide's tenure coincided with the period in which the casino industry embraced computer technology and changed the way that slot machines and other mechanical gaming devices were operated and regulated. The knowledge and experience she gained in that time will serve her--and DMV-- well in the coming years.

From 1986 to 1994, Legreide was Deputy Executive Director of the New Jersey State Senate Democratic Caucus. She staffed the Senate's Transportation Committee, as well as its Coastal Resources Committee. She also was responsible for all organizational procedures and Senate meetings while in the majority.

Previously, Legreide was executive director of L.E.G.A.L., an organization representing lawyers. She has also served as a Commissioner of the Ocean County Board of Elections, a legislative assistant for Senator John Russo and Assemblymen John Paul Doyle and Dan Newman, and a fourth grade teacher.

Legreide is a trustee of the Atlantic County Economic Development Corporation and the Point Pleasant Beach Education Foundation, a member of the Board of Directors for the Atlantic City Historical Waterfront Foundation, and the LPGA Urban Youth Golf Program.
